A Familiar Betrayal by Brianna North
The Bennetts are the picture-perfect family: at least, that’s what they want the subscribers to their famous vlogging channel to think. Between Mom’s obsession with their impeccable reputation and Dad hardly in the picture, seventeen-year-old Alyssa’s life is anything but normal when the cameras are off. Her parents’ divorce was a lot messier than it was portrayed online, and Alyssa wants nothing more than for Mom to put an end to their channel so they can finally get the privacy they deserve.
But when a video exposing the truth goes viral, Dad is out for revenge.
The last thing Alyssa ever expected was to be kidnapped by her own father, but as the days take a darker turn and the threats become increasingly violent, she must fight for survival. But what do you do when the person who was supposed to keep you safe becomes your biggest nightmare?

Book Review
Wink edited by Henry Herz, published by Brigids Gate Press, reviewed by N S Ford
A compelling collection of tales inspired by - or which 'wink' at - children's literature. The stories are suitable for young adults and not so young adults, but are not intended for children. I have to admit that I wasn't familiar with some of the original books, which may have slightly affected my enjoyment of these stories. My favourites in this collection were 'The Scent of Cotton Candy' by Leah Cypess (which winks at Mary Poppins) and 'Doc's Lucky Day at the Dump' by Alex Shvartsman (Doctor Dolittle). I liked how creative all of the stories were in their interpretations and some of them had a science fiction element, which was appealing. The interior artwork by Adam Gustavson is lovely and the cover illustration by Abigail Larson has an intriguing gothic flavour. Recommended if you're looking for something different to read and you enjoy retellings of classic books.
