When Shadows Fall (Shadows of the Vale Book 1) by Lindy Enns, release date 5th June
“Everything I hated and feared was outside that window. There was nothing between me and the night, nothing but a boy I didn’t know and shouldn’t trust.”
When the sun sets in Merak, a terrifying shadow world appears, guarded by nightmare beasts that prowl the darkness enforcing the rule of a tyrant lord.
Terrified of the night and plagued with crippling panic attacks, seventeen-year-old Ara Holstenner’s only solace from her anxiety is the bond she shares with her brave younger sister. But when Lan is taken by shadow creatures, Ara must embark on a perilous quest to rescue her, aided only by a strange boy who claims to be from her past.
But the night is not what it seems. If Ara cannot untangle the dark secrets lurking within its shadows, she will condemn her sister—and herself—to a lifetime of unimaginable torment.

Book Review
Zero Recall by P S Parker, reviewed by N S Ford
A psychological thriller with an intriguing concept, a good idea for a movie! Narrated by Oliver Manners, an architect who is bewildered to find that he’s suddenly middle-aged, has a separate bedroom from his wife and fallen out with his friends. His car has also been involved in an accident, circumstances unknown. Gradually the novel feeds more information to the reader and you start to realise along with Oliver that something is not right at all, but who can be trusted? Being a seasoned reader of thrillers, I did guess a couple of the twists but there was one I didn’t see coming. The scenes were very tense towards the end. I think there could have been more suspense in the earlier scenes and more showing rather than telling. It’s a quick read, confidently plotted, in which the details are tied up at the end.
